I got to know it because builds on Travis CI were failing. The best solution is to not wait and to start converting right now. " "Use the model attribute instead.", RemovedInDjango20Warning, 2) return self.model The next problem was that all `initdb` commands failed with a OperationalError similar to this: Problem installing fixture '...fixtures/std.py': Could not load contacts.CompanyType(pk=None): no such table: contacts_companytype That was because "Automatic syncing of apps without migrations is removed. Migrations are compulsory for all apps unless you pass the --run-syncdb option to migrate." And the docs about `--run-syncdb `_ reveal that The `--run-syncdb` option allows creating tables for apps without migrations. While this isn’t recommended, the migrations framework is sometimes too slow on large projects with hundreds of models. Yes, we go the way which is not recommended. Yet another problem was that Django has gone very allergic against importing a model from a plugin that isn't installed:: RuntimeError: Model class django.contrib.contenttypes.models.ContentType doesn't declare an explicit app_label and either isn't in an application in INSTALLED_APPS or else was imported before its application was loaded. I fixed this by defining dummy replacements for ContentType and GenericForeignKey in :mod:`lino.core.utils`. NB: I started to remove support for Django 1.6, i.e. all tests for `AFTER17` (which actually meant `AFTER16`) can be considered `True`. And the SystemCheckError identified some issues of style:: events.Type.events_column_names: (fields.E121) 'max_length' must be a positive integer. Yes, Django was right, these fields were declared like this:: events_column_names = models.CharField( max_length="100", default="when:30 what:40 where:30") It sems that Django no longer resolves the `Field.rel.model` of ForeignKey fields on abstract models. That's why we had a failure when trying to add a ChangeWatcher to `integ.ContractBase`. I solved this by adding a test in :meth:`Model.get_data_elem`. It sems that Django 1.9 imports the :setting:`ROOT_URLCONF` much earlier. The problem for us was that Lino used the late importing of this module to send our `database_ready` signal. This signal is needed to fill e.g. dynamic columns of a ventilated table. I added a :mod:`lino.modlib.database_ready` plugin in the hope to... , but `post_migrate` is not what we need. We rather need `database_connect`, but we must wait until migrations have been run. And *then* send `database_ready`. No, I don't see for the moment how we could get a read database_ready signal. But fortunately I found a workaround: in :func:`tables.setup_ventilated_columns` I catch any OperationalError and ignore it. That seems to do it. The test suites seem to pass (maybe except for some minor trivialities). Checkin, and now I hope that Lino keep quiet until tomorrow.
